Acrobat 8
Acrobat Professional 8 and Reader 8
Envision a simple, elegant, and highly usable interface that exemplifies the new look and feel of Adobe.
  • Support the wide range of user types and interface permutations through a flexible and customizable toolbar system.
  • Create a logical and scalable menu system that is easily navigable by new users and readily understood by existing users.
  • For Acrobat Pro, promote access to the top areas of activity such as PDF conversion, commenting, forms creation, and document security.
  • For Reader, create a comfortable reading environment that emphasizes the document rather than the interface.
Acrobat 7
Before: Acrobat 7
Acrobat 7 had an old-school look and feel and bore the weight of 20 years of features being tacked onto it.
Acrobat 8 System
Updated Infrastructure
The redesign was more than a pixel deep. I was responsible for defining the behavior of a variety of interface systems, including:
  • Default page display attributes (fit width versus end-to-end scrolling, zoom level, drag behavior, etc)
  • Selection affordances, behaviors, and visual cues
  • Navigation panels (left pane contextual information sets)
  • Behaviors in Single Document Interface versus Multiple Document Interface mode
  • Document self-awareness and conditional interface display depending upon the document being a form, secured, certified, or extended for Reader.
  • Menu system information architecture
  • Toolbar display, architecture, and behavior in various modes.
